La Médicale extends its business strategy to the French West Indies

La Médicale, a subsidiary of Crédit Agricole Assurances specialising in insurance solutions for independent healthcare professionals, is extending its reach by setting up for business in the French West Indies.

To meet mounting demand from self-employed practitioners in Martinique and Guadeloupe, La Médicale has opened an agency in Martinique, headed by Thierry Gallet de Saint Aurin*.

This initiative is consistent with the company's business development plan, which consists in stepping up its commercial activities in mainland and overseas France by focusing on three key elements: distribution, products and services, and communication.

In the FWI La Médicale will offer its full range of property/casualty insurance, personal protection insurance and savings products to more than 2,500 practitioners and 5,000 paramedics, as well as to pharmacies and medical laboratories.

Founded 60 years ago La Médicale is a key player in its market, with annual revenues of more than €329 million and 420,000 policies in its book of business at end 2008. It partners over 200,000 independent healthcare professionals – nearly one self-employed practitioner in three – in France. With a specialised network of more than 100 general agents in 41 regional agencies, La Médicale is unique in its flexibility and its ability to provide each and every professional with the best possible coverage in both their personal and professional lives.

*Thierry Gallet de Saint Aurin, 58, joined La Médicale in late 2008 as a general insurance agent. He is a graduate of Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Paris and holds an MBA from the University of Chicago.
