CAA – the leading bank insurer in France

L’Argus de l’Assurance has published its annual ranking of bank insurers in France according to their revenue. This year, Crédit Agricole Assurances has once again confirmed its leading position with revenue of €26,078 million, up 1.8% on 2016.

“2017 was an extremely positive year for insurance in general and bank insurers in particular”, confirms Fabrice Gardette, Head of Advisory Services for the insurance sector at Accenture.

1st in Life and Personal Risk insurance

CAA tops the ranking in Life insurance with 19,341 million subscriptions in 2017, and also in Personal Risk, ahead of CNP, with revenue of €1,341 million corresponding to an increase of 5.2% in relation to 2016. It is ranked second behind CNP in Creditor Protection insurance, with €1,572 million.

The magazine highlights the rise in the proportion of unit-linked products (26.6% for CAA) in the inflows of all these operators, and the excellent performance of Natexis Assurances which has climbed into the Top 5, ousting Société Générale in the process, with a rise of 66% against 29% in 2016.

1st in Non-Life and Health insurance

CAA also leads the Non-Life and Health insurance ranking, ahead of Assurances du Crédit Mutuel, with total revenue rising to €3,711 million, up 8.5% on last year.

Taking a more detailed look, CAA is the leader in Health with subscriptions amounting to €746 million in 2017 (up 15.8%), €121 M of which was generated by collective health insurance subscriptions.

L’Argus underlines the strong breakthrough of bank insurers in the collective health segment: “They are continuing to gain market shares in collective health. Their desire to be present is bearing fruit. All operators in this ranking have increased their total subscription inflows in collective insurance, with €840.3 M against €594 M in 2016”.

CAA is also the leader in Home insurance policies with €958 million in revenue (up 9%), and in Automobile insurance with revenue of €961 million (up 9.1%).

The magazine also notes the imminent arrival of a new player in general insurance, with BNP Paribas Cardif preparing to launch Cardif IARD, created in association with Matmut and designed to sell automobile and home insurance policies throughout the BNP Paribas network, along with legal protection and school insurance.  Perhaps this newcomer will trigger a reshuffle in next year’s ranking.
